Pokémon unveils new anime short “Dragonite and the Mailman”

The Pokémon franchise has announced an exciting new project for Pokémon Day (February 27th): a short anime film titled “Kairyū to Yūbinya-san” (Dragonite and the Mailman).
Produced by CoMix Wave Films, the studio behind acclaimed director Makoto Shinkai’s works, this heartwarming story promises to captivate audiences.
This heartwarming tale will follow Hana, a young girl who idolizes a Dragonite postal worker. Hana’s world is turned upside down when she receives a mysterious letter with no addressee.
Accompanied by her loyal Fuecoco, Hana embarks on a journey to uncover the sender. She soon discovers the letter belongs to Rio, a boy hoping to send a birthday message to his father working far away in the Kanto region.
With time running short, Hana races against the clock to ensure Rio’s heartfelt message reaches its intended recipient before the special day.

The film boasts a talented creative team, with Taku Kimura, renowned for his work on Star Wars: Visions (“Tattooine Rhapsody”) and Osana Najimi no Carbou, set to direct and storyboard the anime.
The script is penned by Kentarō Nana, while Asuka Dokai and Maho Aoki contribute their expertise to character design. Tasuku Watanabe will also serve as art director.
Evan Call, known for his work on Violet Evergarden and Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, will compose the music for the film, including the enchanting theme song “Kami Hikōki” (Paper Airplane), featuring vocals by suis from the popular music group Yorushika.
“Dragonite and the Mailman” is set to premiere on the official Pokémon YouTube channel on Pokémon Day, February 27th, with this enchanting short film promising to be a delightful addition to the ever-growing world of Pokémon.
